One of South Africa's most notable musical exports in recent years, Springbok Nude Girls is an alternative rock band that formed in the mid-1990s. Not afraid to experiment with other genres, the five-piece incorporated elements from ska, punk and acid jazz into its music early on, introducing fans to musical styles not commonly found in South African culture. To the disappointment of fans, Springbok Nude Girls announced an indefinite hiatus in 2001--during which its members pursued side projects--but by 2006 the group had reunited. While the core of the band's fan base remains in its home country, it also has garnered an audience in the US and UK.
