The Wonderstuff is an English alternative rock band from Stourbridge, West Midlands, England. Formed in 1986, the band has released seven studio albums, two live albums, and several compilations. The Wonderstuff's music is a mix of punk, folk, and pop, and their lyrics often focus on social and political issues. The band's debut album, The Eight Legged Groove Machine, was released in 1988 and was a commercial success, reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Size of a Cow" and "Don't Let Me Down, Gently". The Wonderstuff's follow-up album, Hup, was released in 1989 and was also a success, reaching number four on the UK Albums Chart. The Wonderstuff's third album, Never Loved Elvis, was released in 1991 and was their most successful album, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Circlesquare" and "The Size of a Cow". The band's fourth album, Construction for the Modern Idiot, was released in 1993 and was a commercial success, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart. The Wonderstuff's fifth album, Escape from Rubbish Island, was released in 1995 and was their last album to chart in the UK, reaching number twenty-one on the UK Albums Chart. The band's sixth album, Suspended by Stars, was released in 1998 and was their first album to be released on an independent label. The band's seventh album, Escape from Rubbish Island, was released in 2002 and was their last album to date. The Wonderstuff have been praised for their unique sound and their ability to combine punk, folk, and pop elements into their music. The band has been credited with helping to shape the alternative rock scene in the UK in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
