Tony Christie is a British ballad singer and easy listening pop artist who experienced his greatest period of success throughout the 1970s. The Yorkshire, England native singer found widespread success in the UK with a number of hits such as "Avenues and Alleyways," "I Did What I Did For Maria" and "Is This the Way to Amarillo," all of which showcased his straightforward crooning style and old-fashioned charm. Over the next few decades, Christie's high-profile spotlight began to dim. Eventually, however, thanks in part to the new generation of bands and artists singing the praises of one of the artists they'd grown up listening to, Christie began to fashion a comeback. In 1999, he sang lead on "Walk Like a Panther," a song penned by Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. The single became a Top 10 hit, proving the staying power Christie has come to find over his long and influential career.
