Phil and the Osophers

While the four-piece Phil and the Osophers is based out of Brooklyn, it originally formed in San Francisco, and these musical roots are evident in the band's San Francisco style of lo-fi garage rock. Littered with jangly guitars and fuzzy bedroom recording techniques, the group definitely falls in the lo-fi category, but unlike other bands that produce this kind of music, Phil and the Osophers utilizes highly respected sound mixers and producers who have worked with many high profile artists. This might seem a bit contradictory--to use analog equipment to record an intentionally flawed sound then use modern production to polish it--but the band's sound has won it a bi-coastal fan base that thoroughly enjoys this stylistic contrast.
