Sons & Daughters is a Glasgow-based rock band that formed in 2003. Though the band's use of 1980s post-punk guitars and terse, modern-sounding indie rock shares an approach with a number of bands that sprung up in the early 2000s, Sons & Daughters' songs are bolstered by the male/female vocal interplay between joint lead singers, Adele Bethel and Scott Paterson. The four-piece released its debut LP, Love the Cup, in 2003, which was met with a fair amount of positive press throughout the UK. The mellower folk rock that populated much of Sons & Daughters' early work has slowly given way to tension-building, anthemic pop rock, yet Bethel and Paterson continue to hold it all together with their vocal adaptability. The band is hardly a household name in indie rock at this point, but a contract signed with popular UK label Domino Records in 2005 has afforded it opportunities to tour internationally and land notable festival appearances.
