About

Fat Pig is a comedy by Detroit-born play-write Neil Labute that premiered off-Broadway in 2004 to much critical and popular acclaim. The play follows the relationship between a generic, health-conscious company man and an young overweight librarian, Helen, who accepts her shunned status in society. The narrative focuses on the influences in the man's life that try to pull him away from continuing a relationship with Helen and the various troubles their relationship runs into as a result of other people's perceptions. Like many of Labute's films and plays, Fat Pig is consciously provocative and polarizing, and it succeeds on many levels at making audiences laugh, while at the same time forcing them to question how their own cruel perceptions can lead to undesirable consequences in the lives of others.
