The project of Columbus, Ohio-based Ted Feighan, the music of Monster Rally isn't what one might expect; it doesn't conjure up images of the landlocked state where it's created and it isn't full of heavy guitar riffs or loud rock that might come with a band name that seems to reference monster truck rallies. Instead, Feighan's music is a series of sunny loops of tropical styles of music--Calypso, Afropop and Hawaiian music--that cohesively blend into retro summertime exotica. Since forming in 2004, Monster Rally has become a go-to artist for sample-based tropicalia, particularly since dropping a slew of vinyl releases in 2010 and 2011.
