Athens, Georgia band Futurebirds attempts to combine the unlikely worlds of alternative country and psychedelic rock in its hazy, tattered songs. With the release of its eponymous debut EP in 2010, the six-piece quickly gained a local following and has since managed to tour the country, receiving favorable reviews from fans and critics along the way. Futurebirds' strengths lie in its ability to pick and pull disparate elements from its influences, combining them all into a cohesive whole than sounds fresh rather than contrived. Jangly pop and gruff, electric-guitar driven alt-country coexist with modern, lo-fi production techniques, placing the group in some sort of space between The Shins, Wilco and Exile on Main Street era Rolling Stones.
