The Dusseldorf by way of Russia trio Las Balkanieras are a group of women who proudly proclaim their Balkan heritage, but aren't above poking fun at the stereotypes surrounding it or sardonically commenting on the role of women today. By taking traditional Balkan folk songs and melding them with elements of dancehall and electro-hop, or alternatively taking a popular song from Western culture and filling it with Balkan themes, the trio creates its characteristic sound. While Las Balkanieras might be too over-the-top for some, the quirky dramatics of the band's music is very much a part of its sound, and coupled with its satirical lyrics, the group's music is something rather unique.
