I Due Foscari is an opera by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi that is based on the historical play The Two Foscari by English playwright Lord Byron. Despite being overshadowed by many of Verdi's more renowned operatic works, I Due Foscari is perhaps one of his more controversial works. Originally banned from performance for its criticisms of the Venetian Republic, which still included members of the Foscari family, though would ultimately be staged in Rome as a substitute for another controversial opera in 1844.
