Great Big Sea

Great Big Sea is a Canadian folk rock band from Newfoundland. The group combines acoustic-based modern rock with elements of more traditional and historic influences, particularly vintage Canadian folk and Celtic music. The three-piece formed in 1993 from the ashes of Rankin Street, a larger rock group that all three members were a part of in the late 1980s. Great Big Sea's incorporation of fiddle, mandolin and accordion has made it very successful with fans of the Celtic fusion genre that several North American groups have capitalized on over the past couple decades. The band's eponymously titled debut LP was released in 1993.
