At first glance New York City band Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers may come off as some kind of theater; burlesque, exotic or otherwise. However, Shilpa and her hookers is indeed lead by Shilpa, though her hookers are made up of three men. Ever since Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs stormed on the scene, few female lead singers have managed to match Karen in her energy and vocal talent. Shilpa is an easy contender, and her band's infectious combination of punk, pop and alternative rock is enough to launch Shilpa and her (male) hookers into the national spotlight.
