The Heavenly States

Oakland-based trio The Heavenly States might make fairly straightforward alternative rock n' roll, but the band's stage presence has captured the attention of a multitude of highly respected bands and artists. After forming in 2002 and with an extensive touring schedule, the band perfected its live show--which includes a contagious energy and the lead guitarist performing upside-down--and was invited to open for bands like Spoon, Arcade Fire and Bonnie "Prince" Billy. However, what the band is most known for is being the first rock band to perform in Libya, a feat that has been documented by NBC News, NPR and in an upcoming film by renowned producer, Jawal Nga.
