Mike & the Moonpies is a country/southern rock band from Austin, Texas that broke out onto the city's incredibly competitive country music scene to the almost immediate acclaim of local critics and audiences. The band's debut album The Real Country doesn't have any pretensions for revolutionizing the country music industry, quite the contrary--Mike & the Moonpies takes country music and its time-tested tenets very seriously, and is more concerned with creating the perfect country music gem than anything else.
