Based out of Portland, Oregon, singer/songwriter Liz Harris began making music under the Grouper moniker in 2005. Relying heavily upon reverb, Harris distorts her delicate vocals, Wurlitzer keys and guitar into ambient drone music. Haunting, captivating and somehow bringing to mind female folk greats like Joan Baez and Sibylle Baier, the experimental songstress grabbed the attention of indie favs Animal Collective--which she opened for on its Merriweather Post Pavillion tour --and Xiu Xiu--who she collaborated with on a duet album. With her evident talent and the attention of such respected artists, Grouper will likely only continue to win over fans.
