Widely considered the most popular modern country musician, Garth Brooks was one of the first singer/songwriters to bring country music to the masses, landing at the top of the country charts and crossing over to the Billboard Top 40. With his palatable blend of traditional country with touches of pop and rock, Brooks has developed a devoted fan base throughout a lengthy career that began in 1984. While the Oklahoma-based county star retired in the early 2000s to spend more time with his family, by 2009 he had signed a 5-year contract to perform regularly at the Wynn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
