American guitar player Steve James has been touring the blues and folk circuits for over 30 years now. Over that span, he has slowly accrued a solid batch of followers and fans of roots music, all without any major label backing, sponsorship or hit songs. It's his commitment to his craft and a devotion to touring that has led to his success--just the way his heroes did it. Mostly inspired by old Delta blues, James is a bit of a chameleon in his ability to jump around from old-school to contemporary finger-picking styles. Besides guitar, he is a skilled performer on banjo, mandolin and steel guitar, and he frequently teaches music classes throughout his current hometown of Austin, Texas.
