Head of Anticon, the influential record label/collective that nurtured the growth of underground hip-hop artists like Why? and Themselves in the 90s, Shaun Koplow primarily works as manager and promoter for the label's artists, but also DJs fairly regularly at Anticon events, under the moniker Sodapop. Taking over his favorite record label at the ripe age of 23, Koplow grew the Bay Area collective to include an always diverse roster of underground acts and eventually relocated the label to Los Angeles. This commitment to diversity is reflected in his turntablist DJ sets, which include everything from alternative hip-hop to synthy electropop to more surprising additions like proggy, lo-fi guitar rock.
